The history of brewing in Detroit extends back to the 19th century, experiencing a “golden age” between 1890 and 1910. During this period, numerous breweries, including Pfeiffer, Goebel, and Zynda—a prominent Polish brewer—flourished within the city limits.[2] These establishments contributed significantly to Detroit’s industrial landscape and cultural identity. Following the passing of Burns, Linardos took over the building lease and rebranded the establishment as Motor City Brewing Works.[3] The location at Second and Canfield became a combined brewery and restaurant, quickly gaining recognition for its beer and pizza offerings. Linardos recognized the challenges faced by small businesses in securing funding and actively sought alternative financing options, including support from organizations like the Detroit Development Fund.
